After weeks of promising my friend Alissa I'd write this out, here is my very rough idea of how I make lasagna!
Preheat oven to 350.
Ingredients:
American Beauty No-Boil Lasagna noodles
For Sauce:
29 oz can and 15 oz can tomato sauce
6 oz can tomato paste
Oregano
Basil
Brown Sugar
Nature's Seasoning
Garlic Powder
1 lb mild sausage (I also like to mix 1 lb ground beef with 1 lb sausage and use half the mixture for this recipe and freeze the other half for something like pizza on another day)
For cheese fillings:
4 c bag of shredded mozarella
1 egg
1 carton 4% small curd cottage cheese (lower fat = runnier)
1/4 - 1/2 cup shredded parmesan
To make the sauce, brown the sausage and add both cans of tomato sauce and tomato paste. Season with oregano, basil, Nature's Seasoning, garlic powder, and brown sugar to taste (I start with 1/4 c of brown sugar and increase from there).
Mix 2-3 cups of mozarella with cottage cheese and one beaten egg.
Begin with a thin layer of meat sauce in bottom of 9x13 pan and layer up lasagna as you desire ending with sauce on top. Top remaining mozarella and parmesan. Spray aluminum foil with cooking spray and cover.
Bake for about 50 minutes, remove foil, then bake for another 5-10 minutes. Remove from oven and let lasagna set up for 20-30 minutes while you're making some yummy garlic bread!
